Focus Area:

Detection and Identification

Project Cost:

$1.914M

Project Duration:

12 months

Performer:

N5 Sensors, Inc.

Deliverable:

Five (5) Detect-to-Identify Wearable Systems

End User:

DoD, USMC/CBIRF, FBI, and First Responders

Description:

Develop a wearable chemical sensor for immediate protective actions that is capable of rapidly distinguishing and automatically alerting on aerosol and vapor chemical hazards, Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) hazards, and enriched or deficient oxygen levels from background. It shall have detection range from immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) down to permissible exposure limits (PEL) or acute exposure guideline levels (AEGL)-1 for each target chemical.

Operational Impact:

The system will provide continuous monitoring for chemical threats in a wearable package. This continuous automated monitoring will dramatically increase the user's safety from dangerous chemical, flammable, and oxygen deficient environments while not taking their attention away from the task at hand or adding a significant weight burden. The primary target chemicals are chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and sarin.

Transition:

Will be commercially available from N5 Sensors, Inc.
