Body:

New Material to Significantly Reduce or Eliminate Behind Armor Blunt Trauma (BABT)Focus Area: Individual Protection and Survivability

Description: Develop and test a new material that can be easily integrated with current NIJ certified soft body armor systems to significantly reduce or eliminate the effects of BABT.

Project Cost: $0.295M

Project Duration: 12 months

Operational Impact: Reduce the probability of injury resulting from a non-penetrating ballistic impact. Limit injury and time off duty due to a ballistic impact.

Deliverable: Ten new armor solutions with reduced BABT

Performer: Southwest Research Institute

End Users: National Institute of Justice and state and local law enforcement

Transition: Validate armor performance at National Institute of Standards and Technology Material solution will be integrated with commercial armor systems for enhanced protection
